Staff and pupils celebrated the first baby born on Saint Joseph’s Day – the day of their school’s namesake.

Saint Joseph’s Catholic Primary School marked the day by presenting a newborn and his parents with gifts.

Little Thomas, pictured with dad Nik Mason, was the first baby born at Dewsbury and District Hospital on March 19 at 2.15am, weighing 7lb 11oz.

Year six pupils Millie Clapham and Zenon Brzoza, also pictured above, presented Thomas with a teddy bear and his mum, Lisa Squires, with flowers donated by Lavender Hill Florists in Dewsbury as part of the celebration.

School business manager Debbie Parr said: “This is a tradition that has been maintained for many years with the kind donations and support of Jane Tolson, Coun Gwen Lowe and the amazing hospital staff.”
