The town’s branch of Coubrough and Co, in Central Parade, has signed up to Consider-rate, which allows tenants, landlords and agents to rate each other.

Tenants can build up a rental history that shows they have paid rent on time and looked after their property, while landlords and letting agents are also reviewed to help home-hunters.

The scheme also rewards tenants for taking part with an innovative cash back scheme which could help them to earn up to £250 a year in cashback.

Consider-rate Limited has partnered with Mastercard to offer users with a pre-paid card which earns 12 per cent cashback when used at a range of stores, cafes and restaurants and can also be used by social housing tenants to ringfence rent.

The scheme also rewards tenants who build up three years of positive ratings with a bond guarantee scheme, similar to a programme used by local authorities.

Tenants pay the first £200 of a bond guarantee scheme to cover deep clean costs, if required, and the Consider-rate covers the rest up to £1,000.

The scheme pays out for repairs every time damage is caused by the tenant.

Nancy Walker of Consider-Rate Limited, said: “Landlords, letting agents and tenants need a way to know that the people they are dealing with can be trusted.

“It gives people on both sides of the fence a fantastic resource to validate their own reputation and check the reliability of others, allowing them to rent with confidence.”
