Rugby club’s plans approved

Dewsbury Moor Amateur Rugby League Football Club applied to Kirklees Council to buy the land in Carr Lane.

The club said it would develop the land into training pitches, which would be used in conjunction with its existing facility.

Councillors unanimously supported the application at Kirklees Council’s Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Coun Graham Turner (Lab, Denby Dale), Cabinet member for resources, said: “It will help the club’s development programme for young people and adults as well.”

The 2.1 acres of land formed part of the former Lower Spen Valley reclamation site.

It was previously used for horse grazing and earned the council £300 per year.

Dewsbury Moor ARLFC, which has more than 200 members, said it would use the land to improve health and wellbeing through community based initiatives.

The club runs 10 junior teams for age groups eight to 18 years, two open age sides, a senior team and a ladies side.

It had recently been involved in the Community Sports Integration Fund (CSIF) bid led by Kirklees Active Leisure.
