When Mr Adam, who lives in Dewsbury, refused to turn the petrol pump on, one of the men jumped off the motorbike and tried to stab him.

“He held me with one hand and tried to stab me with the other.

“I was scared but I dodged the knife when he swung it and ran away. I was lucky to get away.”

While the robber attacked him, the other held the kiosk door open so it couldn’t be electronically locked.

Mr Adam said: “The other guy was holding the door open and controlling it.

“I think he was watching what happened incase he had to jump in.”

Mr Adam then fled to ElectroPhix phone shop next door and the robber stole cash from the till.

He said: “I’ve never had anything like this happen before, I was totally shocked.

“I didn’t see where the knife came from but it was quite long, like a kitchen knife.”

A red motorcycle was later recovered by police.

The services are owned by Mr Adam’s dad, Younus Adam.

Mr Adam said they were improving security at the services and considering putting a cover over the counter to deter thieves.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the robbery that happened at 3.12pm.
