Road markings painted over horse muck in Hopton

White lines were recently painted on Hopton Lane in Upper Hopton. But workers failed to spot a pile of horse manure in the way and painted a white line straight over it.

The blunder was spotted by Thornhill resident Shaun Maddox, who posted a picture of it on one of the Reporter’sFacebook page.

He criticised the council contractors who carried out the work.

He wrote: “It would be, ‘Cheerio and here’s your P45’, if they had been one of my employees.”

A Kirklees Council spokesman said: “The machine used by the contractors is a large one and the manure wasn’t spotted in time.

“This section of road will be relined by the end of the week.”
