Restaurant’s typhoon appeal

A Batley restaurateur is giving local people an unusual opportunity to make life better for the devastated people of the Philippines.

Mauro Ciannella is staging a special charity night at Roberto’s Restaurant in Batley Market Place on Tuesday where wellwishers can raise funds for the stricken Philippino people by tucking into his food.

He will charge diners £10 for a two course meal – starter and main course – and has promised to give 40 per cent of his takings to the disaster fund.

He hopes the special offer will atract diners and help ease the pain and pressure caused by Typhoon Haiyan.

Mr Ciannella has organised similar charity nights for a range of good causes over the past three years. He has done seven this year for charities such as Cancer Research, Kirklees Hospice and Children in Need.

“I’m delighted to say that the special nights have been well supported by local people and each resulted in several hundred pounds being raised for the various charities,” he said.

Collection boxes will also be situated around the restaurant so that if diners wanted to contribute even more they could do so. Seats and tables can be booked by telephoning 01924 422423.
