The date for this year’s Reporter Series charity five-a-side football tournament has been announced, and the reporters are busy cleaning their boots in preparation.

This year’s tournament will be held at Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre on November 8 and will raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Last year’s contest was dominated by the eventual winners Cleckheaton Fire Station, who beat the Reporter Series 7-1, but reporter and wing-wizard Mike Muncaster believes our team, Pressgang North End, have improved.

He said: “Last year’s tournament went better than we thought it could.

“As a team we hope to make the final. If I can replicate Micky Quinn’s form at Coventry, I might get a few goals.”

The team has had a busy summer in the transfer market, as a flurry of new faces have arrived at the paper – one of whom is reporter and midfield maestro John Blow.

He said: “The last time I competed in a football tournament was as a junior. My abilities will undoubtedly have decreased over the years, but I’m looking forward to unleashing my inner Jack Lester - a player I was photographed with as a young Grimsby Town mascot!”

Another new face, target -man David Spereall said: “I’m looking forward to making my debut, having joined the team during the summer. I will have to get a bit fitter between now and November but if I can at least get up to the standards of former Chelsea defender Frank Lebouef, I’ll hopefully get by.”

Prizes will be available for winners, and a raffle is also planned. If you want to submit a team of your own, email [email protected].
