Relatives of world war dead sought by group

Earlsheaton History Group is urging relatives of people who were killed in World War I to come forward and share their memories.

They want to build a bigger picture of the lives of the people who are inscribed on the war memorial in Earlsheaton Park ahead of the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I next November.

There are 124 World War I casualties on the memorial, as well as World War II and Korean War dead.

Secretary for Earlsheaton History Group Betty Goodwin said: “We would like to find out the personal history for these men and women so we can put this information into our records. The memorial only includes their surnames and initials are used for their first and middle names.

“We want to know where these people lived and what they did before they went to war, for example.”

“It is important that we share the history of Earlsheaton with others.”

Group chairman Gerald Egan said: “We want to know as much as we can about people who sacrificed their lives.”
