The Red Barrow Race will take place at the Old Colonial pub on Saturday from 1pm.

Teams of three will be pitted against one another as they carry one of their number in a wheelbarrow from the pub in Dunbottle Lane, along Church Lane to St Mary’s Church and back again.

They will be aiming to smash the record set by last year’s winners, a team of local police officers and firefighters.

They completed the route in an impressive four minutes and seven seconds, shaving two-and-a-half minutes of the previous best time.

Proceeds from the event, now in its sixth year, will for the Mirfield Royal British Legion’s youth section.

There’s still time to enter a team of three for £10 or for free with at least £10 sponsorship.
