Health bosses will meet on July 25 to decide whether Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust proposals for hospitals in Dewsbury, Wakefield and Pontefract should move to the next stage.

Thousands of people made their voices heard during a three month consultation on the plans, which include downgrading Dewsbury’s A&E department and moving some services to Wakefield.

And earlier this month, a meeting of health professionals, councillors and patient groups was held to review the feedback.

The meeting looked at consultation responses, the implications of the proposals and recommendations to be taken to the North Kirklees and Wakefield clinical commissioning groups (CCGs).

It also looked at changes needed to health and social care in the community to make sure they complement hospital services.

The recommendations included more integrated community care, round-the-clock GP provision and clearer models for community care.

The CCGs will decide whether the hospital plans should proceed when they meet on July 25.

The meeting, open to the public, will be held in Ossett Town Hall from 12.30pm.

Meanwhile, campaign group Save our Local Hospital Services will hold a meeting on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

The meeting at the Women’s Health Centre, Wellington Street, Dewsbury, is open to anyone with an interested in protecting existing services.
