Dewsbury and District Rambling Club will celebrate the end of a two year campaign when it officially opens its new Centenary Walk. The 28 mile circular route explores the natural treasures and historical features of our district. (D511E332)

Dewsbury, Batley and Mirfield libraries were asking for more.

And other distribution points were also reporting their stocks of the free guides were running low.

The guide follows a 28 mile circular route, split into six walks of four to five miles, starting and ending at Dewsbury Minster.

It takes in colourful and historical sites at Thornhill, Briestfield, Whitley, Lower Hopton and Mirfield before heading out to Hartshead where the outlaw Robin Hood is reputed to have fashioned an arrow from a churchyard tree before firing it off to determine his final resting place.

From Hartshead the route heads to Rawfolds, Gomersal and Oakwell Hall at Birstall, before passing through wonderful woodlands and panoramic views at Howden Clough, Upper Batley, Soothill and Hanging Heaton on its return to
