“It’s unfortunate that people feel they have to use those words.”

But he said this was the first time anything like this had happened and that it was not typical of the school or of the area.

“We don’t have those kind of problems,” he added.

“The police came quickly and then we had it removed. No children saw it.

“I am pleased that the police are taking it seriously and we hope we can move on from it.”

PC Chris Birkenshaw, of the Spenborough Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This kind of behaviour simply will not be tolerated and I am calling for anyone who has seen this incident take place or anyone acting suspiciously in the area during this time to come forward.

“The nature of the graffiti suggests that it is racially motivated and we treating the incident very seriously.

“Ready mixed paint was used to write a series of words on the pavement which is directly outside a school.”

Police are particularly appealing for information from over the weekend, specifically between 5pm on Friday, June 20 and 8am on Monday, June 23.

Anyone with information can call the Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101.
