Candlelighters support children and their families through offering financial aid, talking and wellbeing therapies, funding staff and equipment within the hospital and research.

There were many pupils passionate and moved by the charity’s support to families they know. One parent whose son’s best friend recently passed away after a fight with cancer said: “Candlelighters were a massive support to Joe, they did everything from providing tasty food to try and tempt him to eat, to organising activities on the ward to alleviate the boredom of being in hospital.”

Rebecca Swithenbank, community fundraiser at Candlelighters, said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to all the pupils and staff at Heckmondwike Grammar School who have raised in excess of £2,700.

“This will really benefit ordinary families living in the local area, facing extraordinary circumstances and receiving support from Candlelighters through their childhood cancer journey.”
