Public to have their say on radical Dewsbury and District Hospital plans

Hospital bosses are pushing ahead with plans to scale down the A&E service at Dewsbury.

Under the Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals Trust proposals, Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield would be the area’s major emergency centre and only minor injuries would be dealt with locally.

Health bosses today agreed that local people must have their say on the major shake-up of services.

Members of Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield District Cluster Board voted unanimously in favour of a formal public consultation on the plans.

The consultation is due to begin on March 1.

The proposals would mean changes not only to existing emergency services at Dewsbury and District Hospital, but also to maternity, children’s inpatient and surgical services.
