Pub will help with heart surgery events

The Commercial in Earlsheaton, Dewsbury, will host a virtual horse racing night to raise money for the children’s heart surgery at Leeds General Infirmary and five-year-old Alfie Holland, who was born with a life-limiting heart condition.

Alfie’s mum, Emma Brook, is organising a month of fundraising to collect money for the unit.

The Commercial’s virtual horse racing night, organised by landlord and landlady Brent Kitchen and Tracey Fuller, will be held on Saturday March 14, beginning at 7.30pm.

The money raised will be split between the heart unit and to take Alfie for a day out.

Emma, of Track Road, Batley, said the response so far to her charity events had been fantastic.

She said that tickets for a raffle, which will be drawn on March 31, may also be on sale at the Commercial.

The money she raises will go towards equipment, support or anything else that the heart unit needs. Alfie will have another major operation there this spring.
