Pub turned into tea-room for charity cookbook signing

The transformation gave people a chance to sample recipes in former Reporter deputy editor Margaret Watson’s recently-published book – Dewsbury in Food and Photos.

And the author herself was on hand to sign copies of the book which is is being sold to raise money for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice - the chosen charity of Mayor of Kirklees, Coun Eric Firth.

West Riding staff worked hard to give the pub a real tea-room atmosphere as visitors enjoyed dainty sandwiches and mouth-watering cakes. Members of Dewsbury Women’s Health Group put the icing on the cake by providing waitress service.

And the teatime treat in two sittings was a sell-out - with just a few seats left for a second session next Wednesday.

The idea came from West Riding owner Mike Field and pub chef Melina Ekaterini enjoyed helping Margaret with the home baking.

“The teas are a mix of my cooking and that of Melina,” said Margaret. “We are thrilled the idea has proved so popular. The book is also selling really well.”

The tea-room will be back in business on April 4. Afternoon tea costs £5, served in two sittings from 2.30pm to 3.30pm and 3.30pm to 4.30pm. To be sure of a seat, book ahead on 01924 459193.
