Pub licensee sold alcohol illegally

David Pattison, of Mirfield, was fined £1,000 for failing to tell Kirklees Council of changes to the premises licence at the Junction Inn, in Halifax Road, Heckmondwike.

More than three years ago the person named designated premises supervisor (DPS) for the pub left the business and Pattinson did not replace him or make the council aware of the change.

The DPS is the primary contact for local government and the police, and has responsibility for controlling antisocial behaviour and underage drinking.

They have day-to-day responsibility for the running of the business and have to be named in writing when a business applies for a premises licence.

The licensee must advise the authority if there is a change at any point in the future.

Pattison was charged with failing to tell the council when the previous DPS left and failing to name a replacement.

He was also guilty of providing false paper work when challenged.

Kirklees Magistrates Court found Pattison guilty of knowingly committing these offences, fined him £1000, and ordered him to pay £1267 towards the council’s costs and £100 victim support.
