£40K for parks and spaces

The cash has come from money that developers are required to pay if they secure planning permission under Section 106 agreements

Birkenshaw Park has received a £20,000 boost from the Persimmon Homes Bank View development, which got planning permission in 2013. Park improvement works include refurbished and freshly painted equipment, topped up play bark and a new large junior andsenior play unit.

The developers of Providence Court, Brewery Lane in Thornhill Lees have granted £8,500 for improvements in Lees Holme Park.

The community has come up with a number of suggestions for the park including an artificial cricket wicket and football facilities. Thornhill Community Centre and Kirklees Council’s Streetscene Parks are keen to improve the main pathway and refurbish the litter bins.

It has been agreed that Kirklees Neighourhood Housing will carry out further consultation to find the most important issues residents before any work starts.

Healey Recreation Ground in Batley is to get a £15,000 boost from Partner Construction’s housing development, which will include tree planting and a new path.

Clr Cathy Scott, Cabinet member for Place, said: “In essence, despite the severe cuts we are facing, funding from new housing developments that have already been completed is good news.”
