£1bn transport fund approved

A £1bn transport fund has been approved by Kirklees Cabinet Council members.

They also approved the creation of the West Yorkshire Combined Authoirty, which will oversee the county-wide fund.

Kirklees Council leader Coun Mehboob Khan hailed the ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity, which is claimed will bring 3000 jobs and a £185m boost to Kirklees year on year.

The cash could be used to fund major improvements to Cooper Bridge and a relief road around Ravensthorpe, as well as better links between Leeds and Dewsbury around the A653.
