Projects benefit from £2m boost
The Creative Scene programme aims to use the money to develop new ways of getting people involved in the arts over the next three years, particularly in our district.
It focuses on parts of the country where involvement in the arts is below the national average.
The first event backed by the scheme was Dewsbury Canal Festival, which was held in Savile Town last weekend.
Creative Scene director Nancy Barrett said: “We have been working on a number of projects which we hope will engage the community.
“There is an active amateur arts sector in North Kirklees and a real strong tradition for us to build on over the next couple of years.”
Other projects funded by the arts grant includes writer Daniel Bye’s production of Story Hunt, which will be performed in Heckmondwike in August.
The grant will help fund entertainment at Batley Festival, which takes place on Saturday September 27.
Dewsbury Arts Group’s production of Old Herbaceous, which takes to the stage in October, will also be funded by the grant.
