Praise for Mirfield fire station crew

FIREFIGHTERS in Mirfield have been praised for blazing a trail in community caring.

Crew at the town’s fire station have been presented with a District Commander’s Letter of Appreciation for the role they play in helping the local community.

The 15 firefighters, already well-known for their fundraising zeal, received the Letter from Kirklees district commander Keith Robinson and town and Kirklees councillor Martyn Bolt (Con) at a special presentation at the station.

The crew members work on a retained basis and all community efforts are done in their spare time.

They organise a wide variety of fundraisers such as a charity car wash, annual bonfire, Christmas party and building a Santa’s grotto.

Watch manager Neil Dyson said all the team was proud to have been recognised for its efforts.

“They put in an awful lot of hard work in their spare time – all through a deep sense of community,” he said.

“So it’s really good to get this letter of appreciation.”

Retained firefighters are on call from home or other employment to answer 999 calls.
