An application to knock down 115 Westfield Lane to allow the housing development to be built on the site of the house and its surrounding grounds was submitted to Kirklees Council earlier this year.

Submitted by A Stoddart, the application says: “The principle is to create a small community of housing situated in a leafy surrounding.”

On Wednesday members of Kirklees Council’s Strategic Planning Committee will be asked to decide on the plans, and officers have recommended the scheme be approved.

A report to the committee says there have been 10 objections to the application, with concerns raised including that the area has been “inundated” with planning applications for housing and questions over whether the new homes will lead to poorer internet speeds for other houses in the area.

Recommending approval, the report adds: “The replacement of the single house with circa 15 dwellings makes a more effective and efficient use of the site which is claimed to be wholly underutilised.

“The site is not within the green belt and consists of residential plot surrounded by residential development on three sides.”

The committee is meeting online.
