New designated rangers to work on improving areas in Kirklees

The rangers will work on projects agreed by the ward councillors, which means the results, will reflect what matters most to local people.

Councillor Naheed Mather Cabinet Member for Environment said: “We recognise that local areas have had to battle for limited resources for too long.

"However, thanks to this designated permanent resource of 17 rangers across the 23 wards, we should all begin to see a real difference to the way our streets and green spaces look.

"From clearing overgrown paths to removing graffiti, repairing and painting street furniture and clearing fly-tipping, the rangers will work with their colleagues in highways and waste to provide a holistic service.

This significant investment in place-based working will give local areas almost 30,000 extra hours of support each year.

Coun Paul Davies Cabinet Member for Greener Kirklees said: “This new team will help make areas look better, but what really matters is how this helps us to develop a sense of local pride and responsibility in our communities.

"The rangers will hopefully not have to spend their time clearing up after people who have not put their rubbish or poo bags in a bin, or removing fly-tipping at the tax payers expense.

"The more we respect our local countryside the more the rangers can do to enhance it. So let’s all work together to make our spaces greener and more attractive places to live in.
