Labour's Tracy Brabin said she is proud to be representing the Batley and Spen community after victory in the General Election 2019.

Labour has held Batley and Spen but with a reduced majority.

Mrs Brabin polled 22,594 votes, 3,525 higher than her nearest rival Mark Brooks (Conservative Party).

After thanking her agents and colleagues she spoke of winning her third election in four years.

“I cannot describe how proud I am to represent the community that made me the woman I am today,” she said.

And she acknowledged that Brexit had dominated discussions within the election and campaign run-up.

Mrs Brabin referred to the tribal nature of politics in her constituency and that it risked polarising the community.

She pledged to make Batley and Spen “a shining example of community defined by kindness and humanity”.

The candidates in Batley and Spen were Ty Akram (Green Party), Tracy Brabin (Labour Party), Mark Brooks (Conservative Party), Paul Halloran (Batley Borough Independents), John Lawson (Liberal Democrats), Clive Minihan (Brexit Party).

Labour MP Ms Brabin received 22,594 votes.

Green Party's Tahir Akram: 692 votes.

Brexit Party's Clive Minihan: 1,678 votes

Conservative's Mark Brooks: 19,069.

Lib Dem John Lawson: 2,462.

Independent Paul Halloran: 6,432.
