As part of a carefully phased approach to reopening, Kirklees Council announced from Monday residents can come in and browse for books in areas Cleckheaton, Kirkburton, Mirfield, and Shepley libraries.

Visitors will be asked to provide contact details for the Test and Trace programme and must wear a face covering inside library buildings as per government guidance.

“Some of our most vulnerable residents have faced isolation and loneliness during the pandemic lockdown and we hope with this announcement we can help improve their mental health and wellbeing.

“Our focus remains on keeping people safe by preventing the spread of the coronavirus.

“We’re taking a phased approach to see how we can best introduce services. The last thing we want is for the virus to spread.

“This is the first step to returning to a more normal service and whilst things won’t be like before, I’m pleased that we can offer this limited service.”
