Police warning over lottery phone scam
Elderly residents in Kirklees are being warned not to fall for a lottery scam.
Bogus callers have been targeting vulnerable residents, trying to lure them into giving away bank details, police have said.
The warning comes after an elderly woman became a victim of the scam. She was contacted over the phone by a ‘prize organisation’ in February to be told she had won a cash prize but needed to send an administration fee by cheque.
The victim did so and more demands for money followed, before the victim’s daughter noticed the payments and put a stop to further money being paid.
