PC Chris Birkenshaw, of Batley and Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This latest offence follows a number of arson attacks over recent months on vehicles and properties along the disused railway line from Cleckheaton to Heckmondwike and we are looking in to any similarities between these incidents.

“We are keen to speak with anyone who has information about this latest arson offence or any other incidents in the vicinity or who has heard information about who may be responsible.

“Arson is an incredibly dangerous offence, as even small fires can pose a real risk particularly if they are near properties. It only takes seconds for a fire to spread, which can result in fatal consequences.”

The Listing Lane fire took place at around 4am on Friday July 3.

The search for a suspect began in April when four similar arson attacks on cars were reported in and around the Firthcliffe Estate.

One of the fires that broke out almost spread to a woman’s home and gas meter.

Another incident followed in May when a Heckmondwike man’s caravan, which contained full gas canisters, was set ablaze outside his home while his family slept.

He was woken by a quick-thinking neighbour who was awake into the early hours of the morning watching the Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao boxing match.

Police linked the fires and increased their patrols in the area.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
