Police officers injured after chase

Two officers were injured after a New Year’s Eve police chase in Savile Town.

The crash happened in South Street just after 8.30pm on Wednesday.

A red Toyota Yaris failed to stop for officers. After a short pursuit, the Toyota and the police car collided.

A man in the Toyota was trapped inside for around 30 minutes while firefighters from Dewsbury Fire Station cut the roof off to get him out.

He was treated by paramedics but was taken to hospital afterwards.

Two police officers were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

A 27-year-old man was arrested for dangerous driving and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
