Police investigating claims of an attempted abduction in Thornhill have said no crime has taken place.
Rumours began circulating on social media that two men had tried to chase three girls in Overthorpe Road on Saturday.
But today Insp Jenny Thompson, of Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said she was satisfied that no attempt was made to get the girls into their car.
She said: “Police in Dewsbury have been investigating two incidents of suspicious behaviour reported to have taken place over the weekend in the Thornhill area.
“The incidents are alleged to have taken place after youngsters reported they saw men driving a black VW Golf acting in, what they felt, was a suspicious manner towards them.
“Officers have carried out a thorough investigation into the reports including CCTV checks and enquiries to trace a black VW Golf seen parked up in the area. The car was traced and its owner was spoken to and eliminated from enquiries.
“Having spoken with the children and some of their parents we are satisfied no attempt was made to coerce any of these children into vehicles and that at this stage, this is not a criminal matter.
“To reassure residents and deter any further incidents we have increased patrols in the area.
“If anyone has any information with regards to these or any other incidents of concern please contact the Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101.”
