Fire chiefs have released detailed plans for the new station and training unit which will be built in Carlton Road, Batley Carr.
The new facilities will also house the Young Firefighter’s Scheme, which provides practical training for young people throughout the area.
Kirklees District Commander Chris Kirby said: “The site at Carlton Road allows quick access onto Bradford Road and Halifax Road providing good links into Dewsbury and Batley. The new station will contain two fire engines, and specialist appliances and equipment to deal with a range of emergency situations.”
The new Batley Carr station will replace existing sites in Huddersfield Road, Dewsbury, and Carlinghow Lane, Batley. Coun Eric Firth (Lab, Dews East) said: “This is part of a national reorganisation of the fire service. We have to look forward and these state-of-the-art facilities are absolutely fantastic.”
A formal planning application is soon to be submitted. If the plans are accepted, it is expected the station will be up and running by October 2015.
