Plans in motion for old Dewsbury and Batley fire stations

The former fire station sites in Batley and Dewsbury could be developed into homes and a shop.

Riva Homes has applied to build 13 houses at the old Batley station in Carlinghow Lane.

And Kirklees Council planners have already agreed to a West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service application to demolish the former Huddersfield Road facility in Dewsbury for a convenience store.

The combined 44 staff members from both sites moved to a new joint station in Carlton Road in August last year.

Call-outs had declined during the previous 10 years due to increased home safety checks.

Public consultation on plans for the Batley site, which was a cotton mill before becoming a fire station, runs until July 25.
