Plans for 62-bed nursing home in Mirfield

PLANS have been drawn up for a 62-bed nursing home next to a Grade II listed building.

Howard Webster has submitted an outline planning application to Kirklees Council for the development in Mirfield.

It would involve the demolition of two three-bedroom homes in Lee Green on land next to the listed building. A nursing home with 15 parking spaces would be built in their place.

Geoffrey Smithies, who lives next door to the proposed development, said he was concerned about traffic.

He said: “The car park will be full with the staff so where do all the visitors for those 62 residents go with their cars? Outside our houses.”

The application said many neighbouring properties had been contacted and no objections had been received so far.

But Mr Smithies said: “Everybody is up in arms and is going to object. I’ve spoken to at least nine people who are going to object.”

The council previously granted permission for 21 apartments on part of the site.

Comments can be made to the council until Wednesday August 8.
