Plan to brighten up bus station

Around 20,000 people pass through the station every day.

Transport bosses have decided it is in need of a spruce up and have invited the public to offer their suggestions.

The improvements, funded by West Yorkshire Combined Authority, are likely to take place within the next few years and follow the building of a brand new bus station in Castleford.

Kirklees Cabinet member for place Coun Cathy Scott (Lab, Dewsbury East) said: “I would encourage anyone who uses the station to complete the survey.

“The bus station is an important place for anyone visiting the town and for many is the first place they see.

“By sharing their views local people can help make sure any changes reflect the welcoming personality of the town and its people.”

WYCA Transport Committee chairman Coun James Lewis said: “Meeting passengers’ expectation is important to us so before we develop plans for refurbishment work we would like to get people’s views on what they think of the bus station and station, what they think works well and what they think needs to be improved.”

The bus station, which was opened in 1995, already has a range of facilities including a shop, cafe, travel centre and toilet, but WYCA plans to improve waiting areas and refurbish the inside and outside.
