Pizza Hut did not pay the minimum wage

The branch, which is run by franchisee Call & Deliver Limited, did not pay £163.45 to the workers.

Business minister Jo Swinson today (Tuesday) named 48 employers who failed to pay the National Minimum Wage, owing a total of £162,000.

She said: “There’s no excuse for companies that don’t pay staff the wages they’re entitled to – whether by wilfully breaking the law, or making irresponsible mistakes.

“The Government is protecting workers by cracking down on employers who ignore minimum wage rules. In addition to naming and shaming, we’ve increased the penalty fines and boosted the resources available to investigate noncompliance.”

A spokeswoman for Pizza Hut said: “We take the welfare of our employees very seriously and are investigating the allegations that have been brought against a franchisee of Pizza Hut Delivery. As this is ongoing we’re unable to comment further.”

This latest round brings the total number of companies named and shamed to 210 employers, with total arrears of over £635,000 and total penalties of over £248,000.

The current National Minimum Wage for adults aged 21-and-over is £6.50 per hour, 18-20-year olds are entitled to £5.13 per hour, 16-17-year-olds are entitled to £3.79 per hour and the apprentice rate is £2.73 per hour.
