Young Dewsbury golfers complete epic 72-hole charity challenge
Seven young golfers from Dewsbury District Golf Club have successfully completed a gruelling 72-hole challenge to raise money for Kirkwood Hospice.
In a remarkable display of endurance, teamwork, and community spirit, the youngsters finished the challenge in under 12 hours, raising an impressive £2,638.50 in the process.

The inspiring team of Joshua Willoughby, Louie Sowden, Luke Hirst, Annabelle Musson, Brodie Lavery, Will Shaw and Spencer Walton took on the massive feat - which was the equivalent to playing four full rounds of golf back-to-back - to support the local hospice, which provides invaluable specialist care for people facing life-limiting illnesses across Kirklees.
Despite the physical toll of walking miles and playing hundreds of shots from 5.30am until dusk, the group maintained their momentum and completed the challenge with time to spare.
“We are incredibly proud of what these young golfers have achieved,” said Linda Dyson, Junior Organiser at the club.
“Taking on 72 holes in a single day is a massive test of stamina even for seasoned professionals, let alone young players. To see them push through fatigue for such an important local cause like Kirkwood Hospice is truly inspiring.”
Community support has been overwhelming, with family, friends, and golf club members rallying behind the team to help smash their initial fundraising targets, with the final total going directly toward helping Kirkwood Hospice continue its vital work caring for patients and supporting their families.
Donations for the team’s incredible effort can still be made. For more information about Kirkwood Hospice and the services they provide, visit their official website.
