The Thornhill Sewing and Craft Club is currently creating scrubs, bags and hats in the drive to keep NHS staff protected during the coronavirus crisis.

The club has an outstanding order of 40 sets of scrubs from Pinderfields and has been asked by the Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract and a care home in Ossett to make sets for their staff.

The group is currently fundraising via the gofundme.com website so it can purchase more materials so it can keep the operation going.

Amy Day, fundraiser at the club, said: “This appeal is to help raise some money to cover the cost of the materials and patterns needed.

“The more materials we can purchase then the more scrubs we can make! Please help us to do a little bit to help those brave people working hard on the frontline.”

Members of the club span four generations with the youngest, Kitty, just eight years old and the oldest Margaret, aged 84. They are all contributing to the scrubs campaign.

The Thornhill Sewing and Craft Club would usually meet every Monday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at The Neighbourhood Nest, Edge Top Road, Thornhill.

Amy added: “We offer an evening of crafts with a lively group of people, lots of cuppas and some home baked goodies! People bring their own crafts, or learn something new.”
