Pauline and Stan were joined by fellow residents, relatives and team members at Lydgate Lodge Care Home, on Soothill Lane, with special guests from West Yorkshire Police also taking part in the celebrations.
Entertainer Richard opened the afternoon with soulful hits from across the decades, interspersed with tricks from “Superdog” Honey. Shane Hamill then took over with rock and roll, songs by Frank Sinatra and more.
The celebrations also included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by Pauline and Stan, to mark Lydgate Lodge becoming part of Bridge Oak Care Homes.
September is World Alzheimer’s Month, an international campaign encouraging greater understanding of dementia and challenging the stigma surrounding the condition.
Ben Makwar, home manager at Lydgate Lodge, said: “Pauline and Stan were our very own Superwoman and Superman, and it was wonderful to have them at the heart of the celebrations as they cut the ribbon.
“Superhero Day gave us a chance to celebrate the everyday kindness and dedication of our team, while bringing residents, families and visitors together to support the Alzheimer’s Society.
“Thank you to Richard, Honey, Shane and West Yorkshire Police, and to everyone who helped make the day so special.
“World Alzheimer’s Month is an opportunity to encourage understanding and remind people living with dementia and their families that they are part of a supportive community. We’re proud to play our part here at Lydgate Lodge.”
Fundraising at Lydgate Lodge is continuing throughout September, with raffles, coffee mornings, team dress-up days and bake sales in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
