Children at a Dewsbury school have received a card from the Queen thanking them for their messages of condolence following the death of Prince Philip earlier in the year.

Youngsters at St John's CE Infant School put together ideas for a prayer during act of worship time and one of the year two church group members, Du’a Saleem, used her best handwriting to put it all together in a letter addressed to the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

The letter said: “Dear Queen, we are deeply sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one, Prince Philip.

"We have seen on the news what a good man he was and how special he was to your family and our country.

“At St John’s we all respect and value the hard work that you do for us as a country and have been thinking about you at this sad time during our worship.

"Thank you for helping to lead our country and we will be by your side.

“We give you hope for the future in our prayers and thoughts. Amen.”

The children were comforted to hear that their letter and prayers meant so much to the Queen when she returned a card from Buckingham Palace, with a photo of Prince Philip inside, saying: “I send you my sincere thanks for your kind words of sympathy on the death of my husband.”
