Volunteer presenters at HWD Hospital Radio will be live for 48 hours of non-stop broadcasting from 8pm on Friday 25 September to 8pm on Sunday 27 September.

The team’s efforts were scuppered back in late March when the nation wide coronavirus lock down meant they had to abandon their plans for the round-the-clock event. They were able to return to the studio in June after a series of safety measures were put in place.

Chairman Mike Binns said: “Now we’re streaming on the web, we’re here for anyone who needs a bit of company over the weekend so you can listen via your phone, tablet or computer.

“There’s going to be a real mix of different programmes with styles of music to suit almost everyone, from pop to rock, oldies to love songs and we’re also urging listeners to get involved.”

The station serves patients and staff at the hospital, although anyone can listen for free by going to hwdhospitalradio.com

Presenters have collected sponsorship from friends and family and listeners are being encouraged to make a donation to the charity securely through its website.

Mike added: “We don’t pay our presenters and helpers, but it costs us money to keep our equipment in good order and pay for broadcasting licences. We don’t receive any grants so we rely on our annual fundraising events to keep us going.”
