Ironman challenge up next for ‘incredible’ Mirfield nine-year-old who is raising money for charity supporting ‘adored’ best friend

An “incredible” Mirfield youngster is preparing for another mammoth charity fundraising event - but he says his latest challenge is nothing compared to what his best friend is going through.

Selfless Stanley Roche, who is just nine-years-old, will be completing an Ironman triathlon in August to raise money for Headlines Craniofacial Support, a charity which has been supporting his lifelong friend, Teddy Pitt.

Teddy, also nine, was born with Apert syndrome, a rare craniofacial condition which affects the skull and face, as well as hands and feet.

Last year Stanley ran a marathon and raised over £2,000 for the same charity. Wanting to do something “bigger and better” in 2026, next month’s mission will include a 1km swim, a 20km cycle, and a 10km run.

Stanley said: “I enjoy fundraising. It’s just a nice thing to do as it makes people aware of different disabilities that people have. This year I wanted to combine three different activities that I love doing.

“I’m doing this for Teddy because I’ve known him since we were born and we are best friends. It’s important that we raise awareness around his condition and the support that is given to him.”

Headlines supports people with craniosynostosis and other rare craniofacial conditions; raises awareness; and facilitates research that looks to “advance understanding, ensures the provision of quality care, and identifies the best treatments”.

Stanley’s proud mum, Katy, said: “He is just really grounded and is just wanting to do it for his best friend and wants to do something to help. Teddy and his family are just as proud as we are. We are all best friends.

“Every little helps and if we can get that small charity’s name out there then it helps them going forwards. It will also help all the other families they support, which is what we set out to do.”

The boys, who were born just four days apart, have a unique, “unbreakable” bond and were able to play their first cricket match together for Moorlands CC earlier this year.

Hannah Pitt, Teddy’s mum, added: “Stanley is incredible. He appreciates what his best friend goes through on a daily basis. Teddy is so proud of him. He absolutely adores and idolises him.”
