‘In Dad’s Footsteps’: Dewsbury Gladiator to complete Pen-y-Ghent climb that beloved dad never finished
Dewsbury Gladiator Jodie Ounsley has said she will complete the Pen-y-Ghent climb that her beloved dad never finished to raise money for charity.
Phil Ounsley sadly passed away on Sunday, November 30, while walking up the famous hill in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Jodie, who stars as Fury on BBC One’s Gladiators show, will climb Pen-y-Ghent on Saturday, April 11, whilst carrying 56kg - one kilo for every year of her dad’s life.
She told her followers on social media: “The three Yorkshire peaks were one of my dad’s favourite places. He walked Pen-y-Ghent countless times throughout his life. On his final walk, he never reached the summit. He passed away on the mountain.
“This climb isn’t about speed or records. It’s about love, resilience and finishing something unfinished. Following in his footsteps and, quite literally, carrying him with me every step of the way.
“Going into my first year without my dad, this challenge feels important for me. It’s something to focus on and a way to work through everything I’m still feeling.”
Jodie will be raising money for The Elizabeth Foundation, a charity that supports pre-school deaf children with speech and language, while also providing support to their families too.
She added: “They have had a huge impact on myself and our family, which makes it incredibly meaningful for me to give back.
“If you’d like to support, walk alongside me on the day or simply follow the journey - thank you.
“This one means everything.”
