Heckmondwike superstore awards community champions during lockdown

A Superstore has recognised the invaluable efforts of six members of the community during lockdown.

Morrisons, on Union Street, Heckmondwike, have handed out awards for its Lockdown Heroes, after helping others during the coronavirus pandemic.

It comes after the supermarket store asked members of the community to send letters in on what they have been doing to help in their community.

Wendy Clough (circled), Morrisons’ Heckmondwike community champion, said: “Megan has worked alongside The Loving hands Outreach and Al Mubarak Foundation providing food parcels and helping deliver them to vulnerable, elderly and those shielding.

“Siblings Charlie and Eva set themselves a challenge of walking 500,000 steps each in May. They completed this challenge raising £3,449 for the My Hospitals Charity.

“Aleira volunteered with The Magic Wishing Well Charity helping refugees, asylum seekers, homeless, migrants, and the vulnerable settle in Kirklees.

“Ammarah has been delivering hot meals to the elderly and vulnerable seven days a week, even through Ramadan.

“The Batley Boys U15s did a staggering 606km run raising £500 for charity Purpose of Life.”

Winners received a hamper, gift card and certificate.
