Zoey, from Dewsbury, worked at The Sea Turtle Protection Society, whose aim is to protect sea turtles and their habitats in Greece through research, public awareness campaigns, restoring habitats, and through its rescue centre.

The project was delivered through the not-for-profit company ‘Everything is Possible’ who help young people gain experience through non-formal learning by taking part in volunteering and experiencing new cultures.

Zoey who currently studies animal management is keen to progress into marine biology after studying and helped the society by monitoring the turtles nesting activity, protecting nests and hatchlings and contributing to public awareness events.

“This was a fantastic experience for me, it taught me so much during my time there, and not just about the role I was volunteering in or the animals.

“It also helped me improve my leadership skills, gain confidence in teaching people and delivering presentations to the public, which are all valuable skills I can take back to college with me,” said Zoey.

Zoey, who is studying her BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 in Animal Management enjoyed the experience so much, she will be returning next summer to continue to support the charity and further develop her skills.
