Her condition deteriorated and her heartbroken family, who could not visit Becky in hospital, thought they 'may not ever see her again '.

After 29 days fighting for her life on a ventilator, Becky's condition slowly started to improve.

She was taken off the ventilator on April 30 and transferred out of ICU just days later, where she continued her recovery in a Covid-19 ward.

Becky finally returned home on Tuesday after 50 days in Pinderfields Hospital.

A heartwarming video shows the moment she left hospital to a round of applause from the doctors and nurses who helped her recovery.

Becky, a mum-of-one, said: "Throughout my entire 50-day stay all the staff have done their utmost to care for me in every way possible.

"I could not have asked for better care from the staff on the ICU and Gate 31B.

"It was absolutely excellent care and the management should be proud of all they are doing in this difficult time."

Becky suffers from Long QT syndrome, a hereditary heart condition which left her fighting for her life in 2004 after having multiple heart attacks.

Her sister, Kelly Ann Cardwell, has been raising awareness of Becky's condition and launched a GoFundMe appeal to give Becky a holiday with her six-year-old daughter once she has recovered.

Kelly said: "Becky has basically risked her own health for others.

"For the other NHS angels and key workers supporting everyone through this worrying and difficult time, we can't thank you enough for the risk you are taking to save other's lives.

"Just know how much everyone truly appreciates the sacrifice you are making each day."

Becky thanked everyone for their messages of support throughout her time in hospital.

She added: "I couldn't have done it without the support of my family and friends. Covid-19 will not ruin my life, I will recover.

"Please, please be careful and abide by the rules."
