Community champion Mandi Reeve embarked on a mission to help end baby poverty, serving those in the local community and across the UK, with her baby bank scheme.

She has established a weekly baby bank at Boothroyd Academy, allowing parents to collect nappies, blankets, wipes and other essential products.

After seeing the uptake of offerings at the Boothroyd food table, Mandi was inspired to expand the academy’s services, and began to research ways in which to further support families throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although the baby bank has only been up and running for a couple of weeks, it has already received widespread support and a flood of enquiries about how to donate.

Mandi said: “We’ve had an overwhelming amount of support from people both in the local community and across the world.

“I have people getting in touch from different countries trying to find out how they can send knitted items of baby clothing. In the past few weeks I’ve received well over 100 baby blankets.

“This is an incredibly difficult time for families, especially those with young children, so it’s fantastic to see how the baby bank can help to support those who are struggling.”

Boothroyd Academy operates as part of Focus Trust – a charitable multi-academy trust which is based in the North West of England – with a vision of providing ‘an engaging and challenging learning environment where the children are happy’.
