People in Yorkshire want seventies food and drink back on the menu

With fashion from the 1970s making a comeback and the BBC announcing plans to revive classic sitcoms from the era, we take a look at what retro food and drink Yorkshire folk want back at their dinner parties.

New research by Whitby Seafoods has revealed the seventies dining trends that people want to be the rage again and the ones definitely not on the menu.

Nearly 60 per cent of those surveyed in the county said they wanted a resurgence of 70s classics scampi, black forest gateau and lemon meringue pie.

And more than a third said they would happily see fish fingers and arctic roll make a big comeback on party menus.

Among the foods they hoped would remain in the seventies were avocado vinaigrette, blue nun and cheese and pineapple sticks.

Laura Whittle of Whitby Seafoods said: “There is a lot of seventies-style nostalgia around from recipes on Bake Off to Danny Baker’s life story dramatised on the BBC. It was an era when interesting new foods were introduced to the nation for the first time and so we remember many of those with fondness.

“But let’s face it, while we want to see the best of the 70s make a comeback, we are reminded of the things we’d rather forget too. You’ll be hard pushed to find anyone going for an avocado-coloured bathroom suite these days.”
