“It was a privilege to be given this award for services to the town council and for serving the community,” Coun Nottingham, of Huddersfield Road, Ravensthorpe, said.

The Universal Peace Federation is a global organisation that encourages different faith groups to work together and spread peace.

Its ambassadors project was launched in 2001. The awards are given to individuals who have helped to find peace between groups divided by religious, ethnic or national boundaries.

Coun Nottingham said he was given the award for his work on human rights.
