Staff at a retail outlet will embark on a host of charity challenges to raise money for cancer research.

The Mill has chosen Cancer Research as its charity for the year following a staff vote.

As well as placing collection tins by the tills, staff at the centre hope to boost their fundraising with fun events and challenges.

Millie’s Mudders, an all-girl group, have signed up to the Pretty Muddy obstacle course, hosted by the Race for Life event at Temple Newsam, Leeds, in June.

The girls have set a fundraising target of £500 for the muddy challenge, which sees competitors race around a 5km course that takes in the historic house.

Pad Furniture’s Chrissy Holroyd has opted for a more glamorous approach and will host a spring ball at Bradley Golf Club this month in aid of Help for Heroes and Kirkwood Hospice, in memory of her father who passed away five years ago.

Chrissy said the glitzy event was a sell-out, despite initial worries about not selling enough tickets.

She said: “I am now well on my way to raise the £800 target I set myself.”

The Mill has will also sponsor artist Shirley Ross’s initiative to raise £100,000 for cancer research through her Art For Life project.

The West Yorkshire artist and breast cancer survivor hopes to raise money for the Leeds Cancer Research UK Centre by uniting artists, businesses and the community and hosting charity auctions.

Last year the Bradford Road outlet raised more than £2,500 for the Forget Me Not Hospice, placing collection tins at its till points and selling charity badges.

Forget Me Not’s corporate fundraiser Jason Costello said: “It’s brilliant what the customers have done for us at The Mill, they raised a whopping £2709.48 for us in total.

“The guys at Cancer Research are very lucky to have you.”

The pledge to support Cancer Research follows the retail outlet’s fundraiser to help the fight against heart failure.

Soroptimist International of Dewsbury and District, along with The Mill, backed the British Heart Foundation’s Mending Broken Hearts Appeal to fund new and potentially lifesaving research.

The women’s group held a nine day fundraiser at The Mill, including dressing in red, in February and raised more than £1,200.
