Not all plain sailing on the Greenway

I, like some others, have been having problems with the small metal gate at the Ossett end of the new extension to the Spen Valley Greenway.

Like many others, I decided to try the route from Earlsheaton tunnel to Ossett.

The first problem is the metal sheet gate at Pildacre. This is only just wide enough for an adult bike.

Proceeding up the Alpine style slope towards Ossett is fine at first, but then you come across what I estimate to be a one in six slope.

This proved to be a bridge too far for my level of fitness and I had to dismount.

Some way further on and you come across the little swing gate. I did manage to get through eventually but it requires Krypton Factor skill.

Also I was frustrated by lack of clear signs pointing to Ossett town centre.

All credit to Sustrans and any others involved for this overall excellent all-weather route, but clearly it was designed more for pedestrian use.
