Letter: Thanks for record breaking support

Thornhill Tennis Club would like to thank all those who supported the recent successful attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the number of consecutive ‘best of three’ sets played competitively by an individual against different opponents.

This took place on the weekend of the 13th and 14th July when one of our members, Thomas Allard, played 29 opponents to break the previous record of 25. He began on Saturday when the temperature reached 30C and finished 22 hours later with only a five minute rest break every hour. He played 62 sets and 500 games.

We would first like to congratulate Tom on a fantastic feat of endurance which raised £1,800 to be split between the Alzheimer’s Society and the club’s court resurfacing fund.
